BROWNFIELD – "a real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or re- use of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.”
Property owners involved in the closure or redevelopment of former or currently operating manufacturing facilities are faced with a variety of challenging economic, regulatory and management factors.
Ohio’s Voluntary Action Program (VAP) was created to give businesses and property owners a way to investigate possible environmental contamination due to hazardous substances or petroleum releases, clean up the property if necessary and receive a covenant not to sue (CNS); that is, a promise from the State of Ohio that no more clean-up is needed.
The VAP maximizes resources and expertise in the private sector by using qualified, experienced professionals such as engineers and geologists certified by Ohio EPA as certified professionals (CP). Mr. Hackett (CP 279) is an Ohio Certified Professional and has successfully managed complex environmental projects for clients, including Phase I and Phase II reports, Risk Assessment and remediation activities, and Closure through the issuance of a No Further Action (NFA) letters and CNS. BMS’ Ohio Brownfield program experience can be found here.
To help facilitate the redevelopment, the State of Ohio provides funding to communities and stakeholders through a variety of measures, including the Jobs Ohio Revitalization Program. BMS LLC can complete the application process to obtain funding for your Ohio redevelopment project.
